First blog

It's September 12, 5 years and 1 day after all of our lives changed. At least all of us Amar-icans. Mine certainly did. You see I was working for United Airlines at the time, at Chicago O'hare, as a Supervisor of customer service. Prior to working at the airport I was a "World Headquarters" (WHQ) employee, a staff person who oversaw reservation's policy and procedure. While working at WHQ, I volunteered to be a member of the emergency response team. There were many roles on the team and mine happened to be the main point of contact for foreign consulates and coordinator of family response for our International customers.

Well, I spent two weeks following the attacks working 12 hours a day, mostly on the phone, reviewing the flight manifests for our two flights. Cross checking with consulate representatives from around the world whether or not one of their nationals was on board either of our flights. At the same time coordinating family response for our customers who were not U.S. citizens.

So the experience changed me.

Now I am going through a complete career change. I am in my final semester of school to become a Registered Nurse. I never really wanted to be an RN. I chose it as an alternative career that would pay me a reasonable wage, offer me flexibility in where I could live and relatively short training. So I don't really "love working with people" because I know how awful people can be after working with them at the airport. Have you seen that T.V. show about customers at the Chicago airport? I've watched it once, it is exactly what I dealt with and made me sick to my stomach that I was so nice to such idiots. I figure with nursing at least the people I interact with will have a good reason to complain.

So I only started this blog so I could comment on my friend's knitting blog, check it out at http://girleatssoup.blogspot.com/

Do strangers actually read these blogs? Leave a comment and ask me anything you want, I've never experienced blogging before.
